15 unfortunately placed ads

What happens when 2 well-intended, creative ads are unfortunately placed together? The result is often out of nowhere hilarious. Here is a list of top 15 unfortunately placed ads (thanks to digg for the link). I was lol (laughing out loud) when I saw those ads.

Make your own ad

Giving ordinary people the ability to create commercials seems to be the fad these days. Many companies like MasterCard, Sony, and GM are doing exactly that. Well, the rationale seems to be if consumers are creating their own dog-and-pony shows, there is no way they can avoid companies' ads, right?

Maybe not for GM. These days, GM just can't seem to get it right even with their ad campaign. GM recently started a contest where you can design an ad for their Chevy Tahoe SUV. It seems that if the consumers don't like your product, they are not going to kind with the portrayal of the product. Needless to say there are plenty of parodies created from this ad campaign. Here are some of my favorites:

Funny Japanese Commercials Featuring Western Celebrities

What happen when you get Western celebrities to appear in Japanese commercials? It is often hilarious because they are often acting foolish. Sometimes, they seem so out of place that the commercials look simply weird. I have just found this website that is dedicated to Western celebrities moonlighting in Japanese commercials. Perhaps it is of no surprise that one of the funniest commercial that I have seen is one by Arnold Schwarzenegger. You will get a got chuckle from these 2 video clips:

  1. Schwarzenegger on energy drink, Booye 1
  2. Schwarzenegger on energy drink, Booye 2 (even funnier)

Let me know if there's any other noteworthy clips that worth laughing at. :-)

Bush Gave the Finger

This is a funny video of George Bush, who was then the Governor of Texas when he gave the camera a "One-Fingered Salute" before going on the air.

My Nonsensical Technical Paper on Network Communication

I have just written a paper titled "Analyzing Link-Level Acknowledgements Using Extensible Information" with 4 other distinguished experts in the field of Network Communication. You can download the full paper here.

...

If you think I wrote that paper, think again. Some MIT students from CSAIL wrote a web application called SCIgen that randomly generates Computer Science/Engineering technical papers. And in the grand tradition of MIT hacks, the writers of SCIgen tested out their program last spring by generating a random paper and submitted it to WWSCI 2005 conference.

"Three Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate students attracted a flurry of media attention in April after a questionable academic conference accepted their randomly-generated, nonsensical paper. Now the students are stars of a lighthearted video they made when they went to the conference even though their invitations had been withdrawn."

Check out their home-brewed video here.
