I couldn't agree more. As I've blogged in the past, most people in our cohort suck at public speaking. They're smart and have good ideas, but just can't stick to a given timeline. It's a pain for the audience. And contrary to what Matti might think, a good presentation is worth far more in the business world than a good thesis.

I just have to disclaim that I am not referring to people in our SDM cohort per se, but rather the presentations that I have been witnessed so far.

I support your assertion that good presentation goes a long way, after all a good thesis is as good as your presentation. And in today's fast-paced world, you have more opportunities to present your thesis verbally than having people reading your thesis. Convincing people your hypothesis requires the explanation of complex theories in plain English that everyone can understand. That's the first step to selling your ideas.

But I was funny, and not monotonous at all. It has, however, turned out, that professors Roemer and Whitney considered my presentation bad, and said that if we do similar in the final presentation, the "senior guest" will question our professional judgement. So, at least in the PDD-class, it is much better to be as boring, monotonous, reading-from-slides, not interesting as one ever can be.
