How Much is $1 Billion?

I heard the discussion of being in the Billionaire List on NPR earlier tonight. From the radio... The commentator ask: How big is 1 billion? In terms of dollars, that's huge. Imagine having $1 billion as your net worth. But most people are lucky to even retire with $1 million. So, to put it in perspective, that's at least 1,000 lifetimes. I guess I won't be in the same league as Bill Gates anytime soon.

But retirement is a small portion of life... $1B is probably not enough to sustain a good lifestyle in the US over 70000 years (1000 lifetimes), even when adjusted for inflation.

i would settle for 1 million but not on my retirement. much before. you know, with 1 million in the bank dedicated to interest only, u can get a good monthly salary. even enough to make u quit ur boring and tedious job. dreams dreams dreams
