Less blogging from now on

Long time no blog. No kidding. Well, this week marks the first week of the spring semester at MIT and I have been busy auditing a bunch of classes. Consequently, I didn't have time for anything else. Or so it seems. I really haven't been writing very eloquently lately and with school starting up, I am less inclined to blog. The truth is that I am less motivated to blog these days. I am actually thinking of calling it quits. All the sudden, I started feeling that I am sharing way too much about my life with the rest of the world and I am not very comfortable with that notion. Somehow I think that what I write now will come back and haunt me in the future, especially if I become famous one day - yeah that's the dream/goal. But seriously, I haven't been articulating very well on my blog. For some time, I have been going with quantity instead of quality. Besides the daily anecdotes about school and my life have become quite mundane and predictable (well, at least for me). Moreover, I don't make very strong statements on my blog, which maybe why my blog is a little uninteresting. Instead, in most cases, my words really reflect my stream of consciousness at the moment of writing. In a sense, it is like a public memoir - one share one's personal thoughts to the public. So it all comes back to full circle; I am having second thoughts about sharing my feelings and thoughts publicly, but spontaneous writing is what I am good at and enjoy. So citing a busy schedule at school as an excuse, I think I am going to keep a low-profile on my blog for a while. There will be fewer updates from now on.

Samuel, what can I say to make you change your mind?

I find your blog quite interesting. In fact, it's moved up into the realm of websites I check first thing in the morning when I turn my computer on.

I think the stream of consciousness aspect of your blog is what makes it strong; it gives those of us who don't get to see you very often a taste of Samuel every now and then. Further, I find your stream of consciousness to contain many valuable insights that might not otherwise come out if you had a stronger internal editor.

Will the legions of folks who regularly read Sam's blog join me in convincing Sam that this is the wrong idea?

I vote for Samuel to keep blogging.

Yes, I certainly hope that Sam would continue blogging. I like his way of writing and his way of observing life. Both very different from mine.

Sam, I vote you keep writing, even at a slower pace. I really enjoy your blog.
I'm facing the same dilemma. I started keeping a blog about my experiences here at MIT, and sometimes I wonder how valuable it would be to share my experience with the entire world. But I prefer to think of it as a personal memoir that other people will sometimes read (mostly family and friends, anyway). The blog forces me to reflect on my experiences and analyze them so that I can extract the essence of things and keep it for future reference.
I know that behind your blog (and others') there's a whole world of thought that is not (or cannot be) expressed because it's too personal.
I vote you keep writing. After all, you're one of the reasons I started keeping my own blog.

Sam,
I have one 2.5 year old and 1 newborn. My life consists of trying to convince one to use the bathroom and changing the other. The most exotic place I have been to in the last few years is the international food aisle in the grocery store. I live vicareuosly through your blog reading all of the fun and intersting places you have been or are going. Without it, I have a pretty harsh reality to face. Please don't give it up.

Please don't stop writing, Sam! You're a great writer, and I actually find what you call the "mundane" details of your life to be interesting. I'm quivering my lip and giving you puppy dog eyes right now =(

If you think writing is important, as you've indicated in the past and as I think, then you should write more frequently instead of less, as a form of practice for improvement. It doesn't have to be very personal stuff: pick a nice picture and write your thoughts about it, criticise an article, point out a cool gadget...

I really like it all your sinceriousness. The way you say what you are feeling is awsome. I really like it.
